Article #6
If you have dandruff, you know how frustrating, embarrassing and uncomfortable a condition it can be. Dandruff is the result of your body's inability to cope with Pityrosporum ovale, or P. Ovale, a fungus that is found on everybody's skin and scalp.
In the majority of people, the fungus does not create a problem and remains under
control, but that is not the case for dandruff sufferers. It isn't clear whether
dandruff is caused by stress, diet, heredity or hormones, but when P. Ovale is allowed
to grow too quickly, dandruff is the end result. It shows up as greasy, unsightly
flakes and can also lead to a dry, itchy scalp. Although there are many dandruff
treatments available, only one, Nizoral, contains an active ingredient that kills
P. Ovale. Nizoral shampoo is an easy, effective way to eliminate dandruff fallout;
it's also an excellent dry scalp treatment.
Many people believe that dandruff is a result of a dry scalp, but that is not the
case. Dandruff flakes appear when your scalp is producing dead cells at twice or
more the normal rate. Scalp cells are usually replaced an average of once per month,
but people with dandruff shed those cells about every fifteen days. This results
in white or yellow greasy flakes that are visible in your hair, on your scalp, and
on your clothing.
In more severe cases the process is even faster and the dandruff flakes are accompanied
by an itchy scalp condition called seborrheic dermatitis, requiring the use of a
dry scalp treatment. Nizoral is the only anti-
The reason why Nizoral works so well is that it contains Ketoconazole, a powerful
antifungal drug that is used in the treatment of many different skin and body fungus
conditions. When you wash your hair with Nizoral, the Ketoconazole weakens the walls
of the fungus cells that contribute to your dandruff condition. This weakening leads
to the fungus cells dying.
Nizoral only needs to be used twice per week because its active ingredient remains on your scalp for up to seven days after each use, preventing return of the fungus while providing relief to your itchy dry scalp. Between administration of Nizoral, use your regular shampoo and conditioner.
In addition to being an effective anti dandruff shampoo, Nizoral is safe and gentle
enough to use on color treated or chemically relaxed hair. It has also been shown
to have a positive impact on hair regrowth for people with male pattern baldness.
To use Nizoral to treat dandruff, start off using it twice a week in place of your
normal shampoo. Once you've wet your hair, massage a couple of teaspoons of Nizoral
onto your hair and scalp and let it rest on your head for three to five minutes before
rinsing completely out. The active ingredient, Ketoconazole, will work to kill the
P. Ovale cells and will remain on your scalp through to your next treatment. For
